Geometry

TermDefinition
acute angle an angle less than 90 degrees
acute triangle a triangle that contains only angles that are less than 90 degrees
angle The amount of turn between two straight lines that have a common endpoint (the vertex).
circle a round plane figure whose boundary (circumference) is equal distance from the center
classify to put in a group based on similarities
degrees a measure for angles
end point a point at which a line segment or a ray ends. a line segment has 2 endpoints. a ray has one endpoint.
equilateral triangle a triangle with equal sides and angles
hexagon a plane figure with six sides and six angles
hierarchy a system of things ranked one above another
intersect to cross over at a common point
isosceles triangle a triangle with 2 equal sides and angles
line a line is a straight path that is endless in both directions
line segment part of a line connecting two points. it has definite endpoints.
obtuse angle an angle that is more than 90 degrees but less than 180 degrees
obtuse triangle a triangle that has 1 angle greater than 90 degrees
octagon a plane figure with eight straight sides and eight angles.
parallel lines two lines on a plan that never meet - they are always the same distance apart
Parallelogram A 4-sided shape with straight sides where opposite sides are parallel (opposite sides are equal in length and opposite angles are equal).
perpendicular lines lines that intersect at right angles (90 degrees) to each other
plane figure a two-dimensional shape with length and width, but no thickness
points a exact location - points have no size, only position
polygon A closed plane figure made up of 3 or more straight lines
Properties characteristics used to describe a figure (length, width, edge, line segments, face, area, vertices, parallel, perpendicular...)
quadrilateral a plane figure with four straight sides
ray a line with a start point but no endpoint (it goes on forever)
rectangle a parallelogram with four right angles, four straight sides, and opposite sides are parallel and equal in length
Rhombus a parallelogram with straight, equal length sides. Opposite sides are parallel and opposite angles are equal.
right angle an angle that measures exactly 90 degrees (square corner)
right triangle a triangle with 1 right angle (90 degrees)
scalene triangle a triangle with all sides and angles of different measure
square a parallelogram with four right angles and four equal sides (a special type of rectangle)
three-dimensional (3D) a shape that has three dimensions - length, width, and height
Trapezoid A parallelogram with straight sides that has a pair of opposite sides parallel.
triangle a plane figure with three sides and three angles
two-dimensional (2D) a shape that only has two dimensions, length and width
vertex a point where two or more straight lines meet (a corner). More than one vertex are called, vertices.

Use these flashcards to help memorize information. Look at the large card and try to recall what is on the other side. Then click the card to flip it. If you knew the answer, click the green Know box. Otherwise, click the red Don't know box.

When you've placed seven or more cards in the Don't know box, click "retry" to try those cards again.

If you've accidentally put the card in the wrong box, just click on the card to take it out of the box.

You can also use your keyboard to move the cards as follows:

If you are logged in to your account, this website will remember which cards you know and don't know so that they are in the same box the next time you log in.

When you need a break, try one of the other activities listed below the flashcards like Matching, Snowman, or Hungry Bug. Although it may feel like you're playing a game, your brain is still making more connections with the information to help you out.
