Types of Agriculture

Dairying The process of raising animals, like cattle, for dairy products.
Grain The harvested seeds of grass, like wheat, corn, and rice.
Horticulture A type of intensive farming for growing fruits, vegetables, and flowers (gardening).
Intensive Agriculture A farming system to grow food in a small plot of land using hard labor for local production.
Market Gardening A type of intensive farming that grows different crops, often to sell directly to local farmers.
Mediterranean Agriculture A form of extensive, commercial agriculture by growing crops in Mediterranean regions (Agriculture in Mediterranean areas).
Mixed Crop and Livestock Farming A farming technique involving using crops and livestock to support each other; The crops feed the livestocks and the livestock produces fertilizer for the crops.
Pastoral Nomadism A form of agriculture where people primarily depend on their animals for resources (not crops).
Plantation A large plot of land used for farming one or two cash crops for export, often owned by people from more developed countries.
Ranching A form of extensive, commercial agriculture by raising livestock, often in areas unsuitable for farming.
Shifting Cultivation A form of subsistence farming by clearing a plot of land to use for a few years, and then abandoning it for a long period of time.
Truck Farming A form of intensive, commercial farming by gardening and fruit farming.
Wet Rice A form of intensive subsistence agriculture by planting rice in a flooded field
Crop Rotation The practice of alternating crops within a field over time to improve soil fertility, reduce erosion, and manage pests and diseases.
Double-Cropping The practice of growing 2 or more crops on the same land within a single growing season to maximize yield and potentially income.
Milkshed the geographic area surrounding a city or market from which milk can be supplied without spoiling
Monocropping The practice of growing only one single crop on a single land.
Monoculture the practice of cultivating or growing a single type of crop or organism in a large area, often for commercial purposes and efficiency
No Tillage A cropping system where the soil is left undisturbed from harvest until the next planting.
Ridge-Tilling a conservation tillage technique where crops are planted on raised ridges, promoting soil conservation and reducing erosion
Slash-and-Burn Agriculture A farming technique where vegetation is cleared by slashing and burning to make land fertile for temporary use.
Transhumance The seasonal movement of livestock between different pastures, often between mountains and lowland areas.
Overfishing The practice of catching more fish than can be replenished through natural reproduction, resulting in decreasing populations of fish.
Aquaculture (Aquafarming) the farming and rearing of aquatic organisms
