Plot and Character Archetypes
| Term | Definition |

| Archetypes Definition: | plots, settings, and characters that appear regularly w/ the creators often times not fully aware that they are repeating a long established pattern. |
| Plot Archetypes: Hero's journey | 3 stages |
| HJ. Stage one: The call to adventure | challenged to take something on that takes them away from home, meets with mentor |
| HJ. Stage two: The road of trials | hero endures tests of strength. survives by relying on their own character traits |
| HJ. Stage three: The return | After surviving the trials, heros returns home, changed in many ways. Older, more mature, more thoughtful. |
| Trickster 1 : Crossing the boundary | Takes something that doesn't belong to them, mainly between heavan and earth. |
| Trickster 2: resolving the conflict | creates some sort of conflict that must be resolved. ex: contest the trickster has to win. |
| Trickster 3: creating change | results of crossing the boundary, and resolving the problem |
| Character archetypes | 🤦♀️🤷♂️😢💋🌹😜 |
| The mentor | teacher who provides valuable information. Often times they die/ leave the hero |
| The shadow | chief antagonist that hero must defeat or tame. They tend to share many of the same traits and characteristics as the hero. |
| The absent parent | Archetypical character found in mythology and other stories. Many heros are orphans. |
| The monster/The dragon | one of the antagonist the hero faces on the journey. Represents evil. Battle helps hero realize something within |
| The companion | character, sometimes animal or magic, assists the hero |
| The temptress/tempter | character who tries to prevent hero from completing the journey. Sometimes the shadow |
| damsel in distress | often a woman-not always. Needs rescue by the hero often found in horror movies |
