TermDefinition
NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Org.) an alliance that supported the USA and was against the USSR
Warsaw Pact The Warsaw Pact was a military alliance between Russia and other countries against NATO.
Arms Race An Arms Race is a battle between two strong countries that have a very strong military, similar to a competition.
Berlin Wall A wall to separate West and East Berlin, built by the Russians in East Germany.
Capitalism Where companies control land and properties to produce and compete to make a lot of money.
Cold War No direct military action happened but they fought using economic and political actions, propaganda, and proxy wars. (1947-1991)
Communism A belief in which all property belongs to everyone and each person that works is paid according to their abilities.
Containment Containment was a strategy to stop the spread of communism by preventing Russian influence.
Iron Curtain An invisible divider through Europe that divides East and West. East- Communism West- Capitalism
Marshall Plan The US bought things to make West Europe like them so they could make stable trading partners in order to make more money.
Proxy Conflict When two countries fight indirectly between alliances. This kept the Cold War fight free.
Truman Doctrine A policy made by Harry Truman to keep the Cold War fight free by supporting democratic nations and giving them the sources they need.
USSR The USSR, Union of Soviet Socialist Republics, Soviet Union, Russia.
