Heterotroph an organism that obtains nutrients and energy by consuming other organisms or organic matter, rather than synthesizing its own food
Autotroph an organism that is able to form nutritional organic substances from simple inorganic substances such as carbon dioxide.
Organism an individual animal, plant, or single-celled life form.
Habitat the natural home or environment of an animal, plant, or other organism.
Biotic factor the living components of an ecosystem, including all organisms like plants, animals, fungi, and bacteria, and their interactions with each other
Abiotic factor a non-living component of an ecosystem that influences the survival and distribution of organisms
Species a group of living organisms consisting of similar individuals capable of exchanging genes or interbreeding. The species is the principal natural taxonomic unit, ranking below a genus and denoted by a Latin binomial, e.g. Homo sapiens.
Population the whole number of people or inhabitants in a country or region.
Community a group of people living in the same place or having a particular characteristic in common.
Ecosystem forests, grasslands, deserts, oceans, lakes, and even a single pond.
Ecology the scientific study of how living organisms interact with each other and their environment, encompassing both biotic and abiotic factors
Immigration the action of coming to live permanently in a foreign country.
Emigration the act of leaving one's own country to settle permanently in another; moving abroad.
