| Feudalism | A system where lords (nobles) granted land (fiefs) to vassals in exchange for loyalty and military service. |
| King/Monarch | The head of state in a monarchy, a form of government where power is typically inherited or chosen by a select group. |
| Lord/Noble | Someone of high social standing, often with inherited titles like Duke, Marquess, Earl, Viscount, or Baron, and often associated with land ownership. |
| Feudal Contract | The agreement between a lord and a vassal, outlining their reciprocal obligations. |
| Chivalry | A code of conduct for knights in the medieval period, emphasizing virtues like honor, courage, and courtesy. |
| Fief | A landholding, or a portion of land, granted by a lord to a vassal in exchange for loyalty and service. |
| Vassal | A person in the Middle Ages who received protection and land from a lord in return for loyalty and service. |
| Knight | A mounted, armored warrior, often of noble birth, who served a lord or king in return for land and other privileges. |
| Peasant | The majority of the population, primarily engaged in agriculture and forming the backbone of rural society. Under feudalism and paying rent, tax, fees, or services to a landlord. |
| Serf | an agricultural laborer bound under the feudal system to work on their lord's estate. |
| Manor | a self-sufficient, agricultural estate owned by a lord and worked by serfs or peasants. |
