| Term | Definition |
|---|---|
| Bivariate data | Data that has two variables |
| Scatter Plot | A graph in which the values of two variables are plotted along two axes, the pattern of the resulting points revealing any correlation present |
| Non-Linear Association | A trend in the data that can not be modeled by a straight line, that shows a steady rate of increase or decrease |
| Linear Association | A trend in the data that can be modeled by a straight line, that shows a steady rate of increase or decrease |
| Positive Association | Data increases from the left to the right |
| Negative Association | Data decreases from the left to the right |
| No Association | Data shows no distinct pattern (looks like popcorn popping) |
| Linear Equation | An equation whose graph is a straight line. The equation must be capable of being written in the form of y = mx + b, where “m” represents the slope and “b” represents the y-intercept |
| Line of Best Fit | A straight line that best represents the trend in data points |
| Interpolation | Making a prediction within the data set given |
| Extrapolation | Making a prediction outside of the data set given |
