New Right This is what modern Conservatism is and it is pro business and military, and against government spending (Great Society & War on Poverty)
Reaganomics Reagan’s economic strategy that cut taxes for the wealthy, and trickle down economics. This caused the largest gap between rich and poor in American history
War on Drugs Reagan heavily criminalized drugs that were far more common to be had in Black communities, causing the rate of drug arrests to be 5 times more for Black men than white men even though they use drugs at the same rate
Iran-Contra Scandal Reagan made the decision to sell weapons to Iran in hopes of freeing hostages, and he used the money from that to fund Contras, a military guerrilla group
America supporting Mujahideen This was the act of America funding ultra conservative guerrilla warriors in Afghanistan to bring down Communism
End of the Cold War Reagan was president when Gorbachev (leader of Soviet Union) realized that the Union had a very poor economy so he disbanded the S.U. and tore down the Berlin Wall
"New World Order" G.H.W.B declaring that there would be a new era of peace with no threat of nuclear war, creating free trade policies (no tariffs) and encouraging democracy
The Gulf War When George H.W. Bush stopped Iraq from invading Kuwait without overthrowing Iraq, being a major victory for “New World Order”
“The Era of Big Gov. is Over” This was marked by cutting more social services and programs of the Great Society
The Computer Revolution This is what made the microchip and made internet use far more common
Knowledge Economy This is when jobs become focused on providing services rather than manufacturing
Great Recession of 2008 This is when many homes were foreclosed, causing an even larger gap between the rich and poor
Multiculturalism Showing more diverse people in media, of which more and more Americans viewed favorably
Another Immigration Boom Trends have continued you to progress since the 1965 Immigration Act where most immigrants are from Latin America and now East Asia
The Taliban After the US funded Mujahideen, members of that group founded the Taliban which allowed for Islamic extremist groups, such as Al-Qaeda, to train in Afghanistan
9/11 When members of Al-Qaeda hijacked four planes and crashed them into The Twin Towers and other US landmarks
War on Terror This was a war to focus on destroying Al-Qaeda operatives in Afghanistan
Iraq War The war to stop suspected weapons of mass destruction from being used, instead of stopped suspected terrorism, another terrorist group, ISIS, was formed because of the Iraq War and the lack of supposed weapons being in Iraq
Guantanamo Bay & Patriot Act Both of these things use unconstitutional methods to spy on suspected terrorists in the US
Culture Wars Debates over immigration, racism, homosexuality, feminism, etc. and how Americans vote on them
Legalized Gay Marriage In 2015 Obergefell v. Hodges legalized gay marriage
Barrack Obama The first Black president ever in US history
Civil Rights Weaken Voting Rights Act weaken, causing southern states to make voter restrictions, School segregation is increasing as bussing to integrate school districts is being stopped, Affirmative Action is now declared unconstitutional
Climate Change The vast majority of Democrats are agreeing to limit CO2 emissions in an attempt to stop climate change
