Civil Law

| Plaintiff | the one who files the legal complaint against the defendant. |
| Defendant | the party (person/people) being sued and must respond to the plaintiff's allegations. |
| Contract | a legally binding agreement between two or more parties, outlining their mutual obligations and rights. |
| Breach of Contract | occurs when one or more parties fail to fulfill their obligations as defined in a legally binding agreement |
| Torts | a wrongful act or an infringement of a right (other than under contract) leading to civil legal liability. |
| Damages | refer to monetary compensation awarded to a party who has suffered a loss or injury due to another party's wrongful act or negligence. |
| Preponderance of Evidence | refers to the standard of proof used in civil cases. It means that the party with the burden of proof (usually the plaintiff) must present enough evidence to convince the fact-finder that their version of events is more likely true than not true. |
| Petit Jury | also known as a trial jury, is a group of citizens who are sworn to hear evidence and decide the facts of a case in either a civil or criminal trial. |
| Out-of-Court Settlements | a formal arrangement to resolve a lawsuit made between the parties involved without a court's involvement. |
