Minutemen were young, well trained militia ready to fight at a minutes notice - ready to defend their village
patriot The colonists who wanted independence from Great Britain
loyalist (tory) The British people who were loyal to King George III
redcoats British soldiers (red coat was part of their military uniform)
Continental Army The first organized army of the United States
Sons of Liberty secret group of patriots who planned public protests of British laws
militia made of citizens who were ready to fight if needed; trained a few times a year and had their own weapons
