outcome the possible results of an experiment
event the desired outcome of an experiment
probability the chance that an event will occur
simple event there is only one outcome such as flipping a coin or spinning a spinner
probability experiment a test in which you perform a number trials to measure the chance of an event happening
relative frequency the ratio of favorable outcomes to the total number of outcomes
experimental probability the ratio of the number of favorable outcomes tot he total number of outcomes
sample space the set of all possible outcomes
uniform probability models experiments in which all the outcomes are equally likely to happen
theoretical probability the ratio of the number of favorable outcomes to the total number of outcomes
complementary events two events in which either one or the other must happen, but they cannot happen at the same time; the probabilities of each added together equal 100%
compound event two or more simple events at the same time
theoretical probability of a compound event the ratio of the number of favorable outcomes to the total number of outcomes in the sample space
simulation an experiment that is designed to model one or more events.
