| Elite | People of the highest financial or social level of society. |
| Fiend | A person who is extremely addicted to some pernicious habit. |
| Gallantly | In a way that shows exceptional politeness and attentiveness to others, especially women. |
| Aloofness | At a distance, especially in feeling or interest; apart. |
| Eluded | To avoid or escape by speed, cleverness, trickery, etc.; evade. |
| Unceasingly | Without stopping; continuously. |
| Ruefully | In a way that suggests repentance or regret. |
| Winced | To draw back or tense the body, as from pain or from a blow; start; flinch. |
