| cubic foot (cu ft) | Volume made by a cube that is 1 ft x 1 ft x 1 ft. |
| cubic inch (cu in) | Volume made by a cube that is 1 in x 1 in x 1 in. |
| cubic meter (cu m) | Volume made by a cube that is 1 m x 1 m x 1 m. |
| cup (c) | A customary measure of capacity. The abbreviation is c. 1 c = 8 fl oz |
| customary system | the measurement system used most often in the United States |
| edge | The line where two surfaces (face) meet. |
| foot (ft) | A customary measure of length equal to 12 inches. The abbreviation is ft. 1 ft = 12 in |
| formula | Numbers and symbols that show how to work something out. Ex: Volume = L x W x H Ex: Area = L x W Ex: Perimeter = S + S + S + S |
| gallon (gal) | A customary measure of capacity. The abbreviation is gal 1 gal = 4 qt = 16 c |
| gram (g) | A metric unit of mass (weight). The abbreviation is g. 1,000 grams = 1 Kilogram |
| height | The vertical distance from top to bottom |
| inch (in) | A customary measure of length equal to 1/12 foot or 1/36 yard. The abbreviation is in. 1 in = 1/12 ft = 1/36 yd |

| kilometer (km) | A metric measure of length that equals 1,000 meters. The abbreviation is km. 1 kilometer = 1,000 meters |
| line plot | a graph that shows the frequency of data along a number line |
| measurement | measurement to find the size or amount of something |
| meter (m) | The basic unit of length for the metric system. The abbreviation is m. 1 meter = 100 cm |
| metric system | a system of measurement based on the number 10 |
| mile (mi) | A customary measure of length equal to 5,280 feet, or 1,760 yards. The abbreviation is mi. 1 mi = 5,280 ft = 1,760 yd |
