how were slaves treated in athens? could buy there freedom, treated better than spartan slaves, runs errands for the women, could be tutors, teachers police officers, nurses
what did Athens focus on? education and arts (politics and philosophy)

what did Athens encourage? trade and tourism
what government did Athens direct to? Democracy ( males had a say in government)
How were women treated in Sparta? More rights than Athenian females, could go anywhere without anyone's permission, Needed to be strong mothers, trained in sports, Marry at 18 and shave their heads as a symbol of marriage, had to take care of the city. etc
how were men treated in Sparta? Joined the military at the age of 7 ( lived in barracks), property of the state, needs to know how to fight, suck out of barracks to see wives, killed helots for training, council of elders the ephors and assembly ran the government with two kings
was Sparta polytheistic? Yes, very religious ( patron god: Ares)- god of war
how were slaves treated in Sparta?- called helots- conquered people who were owned by the whole city-state and allowed to live with their families

Who was Socrates in Athens? Father of philosophy( died from hemlock poison)
who was Pericles in Athens? General and statesman of Athens ( it was the age of Pericles)-( beat perciles from 4 to 1 odds
did Athens have a strong military and navy? Yes #2
What is Athens currency? Silver coins
what did Sparta focus on? Military, strength, and protection ( cult-like mentality)
Does Sparta like visitors? No, Refered to as Discouraged visitors
Where babies worthy in Sparta? Maybe, if they are not deemed worthy of spartan values they were abandoned- ( ephors)
What was the government in Sparta? Oligarchy ( military dictatorship) 2 elite kings/ veterans at war ( 60 years old)
