Substances

TermDefinition
Substance A particular kind of matter with the same properties throughout it
Properties Characteristics you can observe or measure
Pure Substance Contain only substance and cannot be broken down
Mixture Contain more than one substance and can be separated into its individual parts
Solution A type of homogenous mixture that is formed when one substance dissolves in another
Dissolve The substances are evenly mixed and you cannot see the different particles
Solute The substance that is being dissolved
Solvent The substance that does the dissolving
Evaporation A substance changes its state of matter
Precipitate A solid that forms from a solution during a chemical reaction
Chemical Reaction Produce new substances and happens when substances break apart or combine to form new substances
