| Question | Answer |
|---|---|
| acute triangle | A triangle that has all angles less than 90°. |
| angle | the amount of turn between two straight lines that have a common end point (vertex) |
| area | the size of the surface (amount of space inside a flat, 2-dimensional object) |
| capacity | The amount of 3D space an object occupies. |
| compose | the shapes that make up other shapes. |
| decompose | to take shapes apart, or break down |
| edge | the line where two surfaces (faces) meet |
| equilateral triangle | A triangle with equivalent sides and angles. |
| formula | numbers and symbols that show how to work something out |
| isosceles triangle | A triangle with two equal sides and angles. |
| net | A 2-dimensional shape that can be folded into a 3-dimensional figure. |
| obtuse triangle | A triangle that has 1 angle greater than 90°. |
| parallelogram | A 4-sided flat shape with straight sides where opposite sides are parallel. * opposite sides are equal in length, * opposite angles are equal |
| polygon | A flat, plane shape (2D) with straight sides. |
| prism | a solid figure with two identical ends and all flat surfaces (faces) |
| pyramid | A solid figure with a polygon base and triangular faces that meet at the top. |
| quadrilateral | A flat plane shape (polygon) with four straight sides. |
| rectangle | A 4-sided flat shape with straight sides where all interior angles are right angles (90°). Also opposite sides are parallel and of equal length. |
| right rectangular prism | a solid (3Dl) object which has six faces that are rectangles |
| right triangle | a triangle that has 1 right angle (90 degrees) |
| scalene triangle | A triangle with all sides and angles of different measures. |
| shape | The form of an object. Common shapes are: circles, squares, triangles, spheres, cubes, pyramids, ... etc |
| square | A special rectangle where: * all sides have equal length * every angle is a right angle (90°) |
| surface area | The total area of the surface of a three-dimensional figure. |
| trapezoid | A 4-sided flat shape with straight sides that has a pair of opposite sides parallel. |
| unit cube | a quantity used to measure volume |
| volume | the measure of the amount of space occupied by a 3D object |
