Imagery Imagery is a literary device. It’s when authors use figurative language to paint a picture with words for their readers.
Symbol A symbol is an object, action, color, or phrase that stands for something other than itself, often of a more abstract nature. Symbolism helps to make literature like poetry and novels more meaningful.
Theme What the author wants you to learn or know.
Utopia An imagined place of ideal perfection in laws, government, and social conditions
Dystopia Serve as a warning or cautionary tale. A comment on our own current society. Often is described as a utopia, but turns into an oppressive, miserable state
Setting Time and Place
Seek power They want power and look for opportunities to gain power.
Resist Power They go against and challenge those in charge.
Exert power They have all the power and boss others around.
Submit to power They listen to those in charge, without challenging any rules, even if the rules are unfair.
