Horror 1 Vocabulary

QuestionAnswer
exposition the background information in a story
motivation a goal someone is pursuing that is the reason for their actions
plot twist a surprising turn in the story that changes your understanding of characters or events
imagery visually descriptive language
content warning a warning before a person reads a story or watches a movie about what sort of things are in it
body horror scary things that have to do with the body like gore, graphic injuries, mutation, internal organs, and decay.
isolation being alone
supernatural things not explained by science like magic, mythical creatures, spirits, and curses
uncanny valley when something is close to human but not quite human and that makes it creepy
foreshadowing when an author includes details that hint or suggest what will happen later in the story
unreliable narrator a character whose perspective and account of events in a story cannot be fully trusted, either because they are lying or because they are insane.
sympathetic villain a character who is a villain, but the author shows us their pain and humanity in a way that makes us understand them
