Rational Numbers & Inequalities

DefinitionTerm
counting numbers natural numbers
all counting numbers and zero whole numbers
all positive whole numbers, zero, and their negative opposites integers
a number that can be written in fraction form (positive or negative), as a decimal it WILL either terminate or repeat rational numbers
a number that cannot be written as a fraction, as a decimal it will NOT terminate or repeat irrational numbers
two numbers that are the same distance from zero on a number line, but in different directions opposites
the distance between a number and zero on a number line. |5|=5 |-5|=5 absolute value
the size of a number, another word for absolute value magnitude
a mathematical sentence that uses symbols to show that two quantities are not equal, there can be multiple solutions inequality
