7 Practice Test

QuestionAnswer
Rhythm Combination or patterns of sounds and silences of varying lengths. (eg minims, quavers, crotchest and their rests)
Note Values Lengths of sounds, such as minims, quavers etc. and how long they go for.
Pitch The high, medium or low sound in music.
Melody The main tune of the music. A collection of pitches that make a musical sentence.
Motif A short musical tune that represents a character/animal or person or musical idea in film music and art music.
Tempo The speed of the music, fast or slow or in between. Often described using Italian terms.
Time Signature Top number: tells you how many beats are in a bar
Dynamics The volume of the music. Loud, soft, and cresecendo and decresendo.
Crescendo Getting louder
Decrescendo Getting Softer
Timbre (tam-bur) Also called tone color. The identifying sound of an instrument or voice. Eg Bright, Brassy, Round, Deep, Mellow.
Contour The shape of the melody
Phrase A musical sentance
Duration The length of notes, tempo and time signature
Semibreve (Whole Note) 4 beats
Minim (half note) 2 beats
Crotchet (quarter note) 1 beat
Quaver (eighth note) 1/2 a beat
Quavers (two) eighth notes 1 beat
Semiquaver 16th note 1/4 of a beat
Treble Clef Every good boy deserves fruit ( lines) FACE in the (Spaces)
Bass Clef (Low Pitched) Good Birds Don't Fly Away (lines) All Cows Eat Grass (Spaces)
