QuestionAnswer
What is Area? Area is the measure of the surface enclosed within a plane figure. It is calculated by counting the number of square units needed to cover the surface.
What is the formula(s) for area? Square: Area = side length × side length Rectangle: Area = length × width
What is Perimeter? Perimeter is the total distance around a plane figure. It is calculated by summing the lengths of all the sides.
What is the formula(s) for area? Square: Perimeter = 4 × side length Rectangle: Perimeter = 2 × (length + width)
Point An exact location in a plane or space with no dimensions.
Lines A collection of points extending infinitely in both directions with no endpoints.
Line Segments A portion of a line with two endpoints and all points between them.
Rays A part of a line that starts at a specific endpoint and extends infinitely in one direction.
Angles ormed by two rays with a common endpoint called the vertex.
Vertices The common endpoint where two rays, line segments, or lines meet to form an angle.
Intersecting Lines Lines that cross each other at exactly one point.
Perpendicular Lines Lines that intersect at a right angle.
Parallel Lines Lines in the same plane that never intersect and are always the same distance apart.
Quadrilateral A polygon with four sides.
Parallelogram A quadrilateral where both pairs of opposite sides are parallel and congruent.
Rectangle A quadrilateral with four right angles, opposite sides that are parallel, and opposite sides that are congruent
Rhombus A quadrilateral with four congruent sides, opposite sides are parallel, and opposite angles are congruent.
Square A special type of rectangle and rhombus with four congruent sides and four right angles.
Trapezoid A quadrilateral with exactly one pair of parallel sides.
Congruent Figures Figures that have the same size and shape. Congruent sides have the same length, and congruent angles have the same measure.
Plane Figure A closed, two-dimensional shape.
Solid Figure A three-dimensional shape with length, width, and height.
Vertex The point where three or more edges meet in a solid figure.
Face A flat surface of a solid figure.
Edge A line segment where two faces of a solid figure intersect.
Angle Formed by two rays with a common endpoint called the vertex. Angles are found where lines or line segments intersect.
Cube A solid figure with six congruent square faces, all edges are the same length. It has eight vertices and 12 edges.
Rectangular Prism A solid figure with six rectangular faces. It has eight vertices and 12 edges. A cube is a special case of a rectangular prism.
Sphere A solid figure where all points are the same distance from the center.
Square Pyramid A solid figure with a square base and four triangular faces that meet at a common vertex. It has five vertices and eight edges.
