| Impressment | Britain needed sailors to fight against France so they captured American sailors and forced them to serve in the British navy |
| Anthem | Written by Francis Scott Key in 1814 and officially became the National Anthem in 1931 |
| Judicial Review | The authority of the Supreme Court to strike down unconstitutional laws |
| "Old Ironsides" | The USS Constitution ship defeated the British warship Guerriere so American sailors nicknamed the Constitution "Old Ironsides" |
| War Hawks | Those who were eager for war with Britain |
| Sacagawea | A group of Shoshone warriors |
| William Marbury | One of the judges appointed by President John Adams just before leaving office |
| John Marshall | Chief Justice who spoke for a unanimous court and ruled that the Judiciary Act of 1789 was unconstitutional |
| Oliver Hazard Perry | An American commander who switched to another ship and continued the fight until it was won |
| Aaron Burr | Jefferson's running mate who also received 73 votes |
| Andrew Jackson | An American Navy commander in Georgia who defeated the Creeks at the Battle of Horseshoe Bend |
| Francis Scott Key | A young American who watched the Battle and wrote the poem on the back of an envelope named the "Star-Spangled Banner" |
| Stephen Decatur | An American Navy commander who led 60 sailors that raided Tripoli harbor and burned the Philadelphia down to the waterline |
