What is internal migration? When Americans move from one part of the country to another part.
What is SEATO? The Southeast Asia Treaty Organization (SEATO) was a military alliance that was formed to stop the spread of communism in Southeast Asia
Why was SEATO important? It was an attempt to restrict aggression, prevent the Domino Theory.
In the 1950's who had less educational opportunities? African Americans, Native Americans, and Immigrants
What were the three R's of the New Deal? Relief, Recovery, and Reform
What was the Emergency Relief Act? provided payments to millions of unemployed workers
What was the Agricultural Adjustment Act? provided subsidies to farmers for decreased production
What was the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation? insured deposits and monitored banking institutions
Why did tension between Japan and the US worsen right before the US joined WWII? US had an embargo against Japan and they froze Japan's assets in the US.
What was the supreme court case Gideon v. Wainwright about? a violation of his sixth amendment rights
What did the case Gideon v. Wainwright create? An attorney must be provided to defendants without charge.
Truman believed that it was the US responsibility to help free people resist pressure by communism. How did he do that? Military aid for countries threatened by Communism.
After the War what were the conditions women faced? forced back into the home, unequal economic opportunities
What is the Domino Theory? When one small country falls to Communism than more will follow.
What is the Lend-Lease Act? The US will spare every available war and resources will be sent to help the allies.
The debated between JFK and Richard Nixon showed what? It showed how many Americans relied on television for their political information and views.
Martin Luther King believed in what ideas? non violence
Malcom X believed in what ideas? self defense against racial aggression
What was a result of the HUAC? Americans accused of communism were blacklisted and fired
What is the HUAC? House Un-American Activities Committee
What event impacted Florida the most during the Cold War? 1,000 of Cuban immigrants accepted to the US after Castro takes power.
What three things did the GI Bill provide to veterans? low interest business loans, free college education, and low interest home loans
The GI Bill was passed under what act? The Service Re-Adjustment Act
What part of the GI Bill was most influential to society? Provided higher education opportunities for Veterans which transformed the work force
What is the "White Flight"? It was the effect of minorities moving to cities for jobs. The white Americans moved out.
What happened to Japanese Americans on the west coast after the bombing of Perl Harbor? They were moved to internment camps.
Between 1929 and 1933 what happened to consumer spending? There was a crash of the New York Stock Exchange and the Great Depression started.
What is different between Marshall Plan and the Truman Doctrine. both wanted stability, Marshall was economic focused and Truman policy centered
