| energy | the ability to do work or cause a change |
| chemical energy | energy that bonds particles together - stored energy |
| electrical energy | Energy that is produced from the flow of charges |
| heat energy | Energy caused by the motion of particles in matter |
| light energy | visible energy that moves in waves |
| mechanical energy | energy of MOVING objects |
| sound energy | energy that is produced by vibrations |
| speed | the distance an object travels in a given amount of time |
| circuit | a complete, closed -loop path through which an electric current can flow |
| collision | when a moving object crashes into something else, creating an exchange of energy |
| conservation | energy cannot be created or destroyed, it can only be converted into other forms of energy |
| current | the flow of a charge |
| fossil fuels | coal, oil, natural gas |
| hydropower | power generated by moving water |
| non-renewable energy | can't be recreated or take millions of years to be replenished |
| renewable energy | can be replenished by the environment over a relatively short period of time; will not run out |
| solar energy | energy from the sun |
| transfer | when energy moves from one place to another |
| convert | when energy moves from one form to another |
| wind energy | energy created by wind that turns turbines in order to generate electricity |
