photosynthesis the process by which plants produce energy
chlorophyll green pigment found in plants and algae, comes from the Greek word for green
chloroplasts special organelles found in plant cells that absorb energy from the sun
carbon dioxide slightly toxic, odorless, colorless gas needed by plants for photosynthesis
glucose a carbohydrate/sugar created by photosynthesis (plants us it for food)
oxygen One of the main elements of air. It is released by leaves during photosynthesis.
stomata Tiny openings in a leaf that take in carbon dioxide and release oxygen
