Olympic G&G

God/GoddessDescription
Zeus Leader of all gods and the god of the sky, lightning, and thunder. He carries a thunderbolt as his symbol.
Poseidon God of the sea. He causes earthquakes, carries a trident, and created the horse.
Aphrodite Goddess of love and beauty who was born from sea foam.
Hephaestus God of fire, volcanoes, and the forge. He’s the ugliest of the gods and was crippled by his mother when she cast him out.
Athena Goddess of wisdom who was born fully grown out of the head of Zeus. A major Greek city is named after her.
Apollo The sun god and god of music. He’s a twin and considered the most handsome of the gods. He pulls the sun across the sky each day with his chariot.
Hades While not one of the Olympians, this god is important since he is the god of the underworld.
Ares God of war who was very cruel and violent, displaying the worst traits of humanity.
Artemis Goddess of the woods, the moon, and the hunt. She’s a twin who carries a silver bow and arrows.
Demeter Goddess of corn, the harvest, and all agriculture. The Greeks prayed to her often since they depended upon good harvests.
Hermes Speedy messenger of the gods. He wears winged sandals.
Hera The wife of Zeus and the goddess of marriage.
Hestia Goddess of the home. She was the kindest and mildest of the gods. Her symbol is the hearth.
Mt. Olympus The mountain where the gods and goddesses lived and ruled from.
Myth A story that is shared by a group of people that explains something about life, nature, or history.
