| Selective breeding | the process in which humans breed organisms for desired traits |
| Heredity | the process of passing genetic material, or genes |
| Genes | Segments of DNA that determine inherited traits, such as eye color, fur type and petal shape, that parent organisms pass down to their offspring |
| Alleles | Different versions of genes that encode for variations in a trait |
| Chromosome | a thread-like structure that carries genetic information in the form of genes |
