Frindle Vocabulary

These are the 20 vocabulary words from our novel study of Frindle.

abrupt happening quickly or without warning; sudden; unexpected
absorb to soak up or take in
acquainted To get to know personally; become familiar with someone.
acquire To become the owner of.
awkward Lacking skill, balance or coordination; not graceful.
blurt to say something suddenly or without thinking
commotion a lot of noisy, excited activity
controversial Something causing a disagreement, argument or a dispute.
crimson A deep, purplish red.
endures Put up with something or somebody unpleasant.
essential of the highest importance, necessary
fad something everyone is interested in for a short time.
forbid to order not to do something
impatient tired of waiting; unable to stay calm anymore
imprint an image left when an object is pressed into something
oath A pledge or promise to act a certain way.
phony Fake; or not real.
preliminary Done or happening before the main or most important part.
ruckus The act of making a noisy disturbance.
villain Evil or wicked character in a story, movie, or play
