How we calculate area of a quadrilateral Length x Width
Perimeter The distance around a shape
How we calculate the perimeter Add up all the sides
Temperature How hot or cold something is
Partition Dividing a shape into equal pieces
Numerator The top digit of a fraction; the shaded parts; pieces of a group
Denominator The bottom digit of a fraction; the total amount of parts
Cross multiply Used when comparing fractions with unlike denominators
Equivalent Have the same value; equal
Mixed Number A fraction combined with a whole number
Improper Fraction A fraction where the numerator is larger than the denominator
Triangle Polygon with 3 sides
Polygon 2D shape with no curves, no intersecting lines, and a closed shape
Quadrilateral Polygon with 4 sides
Parallelogram Quadrilateral with 2 parallel sides - where opposite sides are parallel; opposite sides are equal; opposite angles are equal
Trapezoid Quadrilateral with one set of parallel sides
Rhombus Quadrilateral where opposite sides are parallel and all sides are equal; corners may not be 90 degree angles
Rectangle Quadrilateral where opposite sides are parallel; opposite sides are equal; all angles measure 90 degrees
Square Quadrilateral where all sides are equal; all angles are equal and are 90 degrees
Kite Quadrilateral where exactly two pairs of consecutive sides are equal
Pentagon Polygon with 5 sides
Hexagon Polygon with 6 sides
Heptagon Polygon with 7 sides
Octagon Polygon with 8 sides
Nonagon Polygon with 8 sides
Decagon Polygon with 10 sides
Congruent Having the same size and shape
Non-congruent Not having the same size and/or shape Symmetrical
Symmetrical A shape that has two equal halves that look exactly the same when you fold it in half
Line A straight path that goes on forever in both directions
Line segment A straight line that has an end point on each end
Ray A straight line that has an end point on one end and goes on forever on the other end
Parallel Lines Lines that are sided by side and will never cross
Perpendicular Lines Lines that intersect at a 90 degree angle
Intersecting Lines Lines that cross each other
Point An exact location in space
Angle Two lines that meet at a point
