find the sum (+) of the data values and then divide (÷) by the number of values in the data set (a measure of center) mean
the middle number in an ordered data set (if two numbers are in the middle find the mean of those two numbers) (a measure of center) median
the item(s) in a data set that occurs most frequently; there can be one, more than one, or none (a measure of center) mode
the difference (-) between the greatest and least values in a data set (a measure of variability) range
the greatest number in a data set maximum
the least number in a data set minimum
a statistical graph that shows the distribution of a data set using a five-number summary along a number line box-and-whisker plot
four parts of a data set with the same number of data values in each part; 25% (or one-fourth) of a data set quartile
the distance between the first and third quartiles of the data set; shows the spread of the middle 50% of the data values (a measure of variability) interquartile range
