Ancient Greece

QuestionAnswer
City State A independent territory that is the size of a city and makes its own laws.
Natural Barrier A naturally occurring landform that acts as a barrier between two places.
Democracy A type of government in which people have a say in the way a country is run.
Athens A city-state along the coast of Greece that emphasizes trade, education, and democracy.
Oligarchy A type of government in which a few powerful people hold all the power.
Sparta A city-state surrounded by mountains in Greece that emphasizes war, strength and an Oligarchy government.
Myth A traditional story, usually describing the early history of a people or explaining some natural or social event, they usually involve supernatural beings or events.
Athena The patron goddess of Athens that represented war, wisdom, and courage.
Ares The patron god of Sparta that represented war and strength.
Zeus The king of all gods and goddesses in ancient Greece.
Parthenon A temple dedicated to the goddess Athena that sits on top of the Acropolis in Athens, Greece.
Delian League An alliance of equal city-states that formed in order to protect Greece from invaders.
The Peloponnesian War A conflict mainly between Sparta and Athens, as well as their allies that stemmed from growing tensions over power struggles.
