Some vocabulary terms for my ELA U4

TermDefinition
relics an object surviving from an earlier time
complex consisting of many connected parts; complicated
organization group of people; arrangement or structure
representatives person chosen to represent or speak for others
hard-wired to make a pattern instinctive
crisis time when the situation is bad or dire
pollution a harmful substance being introduced into an environment
urgency a state of being very important and needing to be delt with right away
universal true or relevant everywhere
illusion something that appears real, but isn't
environment land, air, and water in which people, animals, and plants live and all of the natural features of these places
uni- word; universe meaning; one dimension
bias when an author holds a strong opinion or belief about his or her topic
claim main argument made by the author
counterclaim a reasonable argument that opposes or disagrees with another claim
evidence something that proves or demonstrates the truth of something else
sound reasoning that makes sense and follows some sort of logic
relevant to be considered relevant, the facts, details, or other information in the text must be relating to the topic
