| Population Density | Number of animals or specific animals in a given area. |
| Cusp | Ridges on a tooth that wear down as a deer ages. |
| Bedding Area | The location where deer feel comfortable to rest. |
| Scrape | A bare patch of dirt made by a deer with its hooves. Bucks create scrapes to communicate with other deer, especially during the rutting season. |
| Rub | A mark left on a tree by a male deer rubbing its antlers and forehead on the tree trunk. Rubs are a way for deer to mark their territory and communicate with other deer. |
| Hinge Cutting | A technique that involves cutting a tree partially through and then laying it on the ground. It's a land management practice that's often used to improve wildlife habitats and hunting experiences. |
| Hack and Squirt | Hack-and-squirt is a method of applying herbicide to the stem of a tree to control unwanted vegetation. |
