The Three Stages of Cell Division

chromosomes rod-shapedbodies in the nucleus

cell cycle the life cycle of a cell
mitosis the stage of the cell cycle where the nucleus divides
cytokinesis the stage of the cell cycle where the organelles and cytoplasm are split up
interphase the stage of the cell cycle that is the longest
metaphase the step of mitosis when the chromosomes line up in the middle of the cell.
prophase the step of mitosis when the chromosomes thicken and become visible
telophase the step of mitosis when the nucleus reforms and the chromosomes become invisible again
anaphase the step of mitosis in which the spindle fibers have pulled the duplicated chromosomes apart
