The Three Stages of Cell Division

| chromosomes | rod-shapedbodies in the nucleus |
| genes | the smaller parts that make up the chromosomes |
| cell cycle | the life cycle of a cell |
| mitosis | the stage of the cell cycle where the nucleus divides |
| cytokinesis | the stage of the cell cycle where the organelles and cytoplasm are split up |
| interphase | the stage of the cell cycle that is the longest |
| metaphase | the step of mitosis when the chromosomes line up in the middle of the cell. |
| prophase | the step of mitosis when the chromosomes thicken and become visible |
| telophase | the step of mitosis when the nucleus reforms and the chromosomes become invisible again |
| anaphase | the step of mitosis in which the spindle fibers have pulled the duplicated chromosomes apart |
