Compare Britain's place in the world at the beginning of the Victorian age with the country's mood at the end of the age. Britain began the Victorian Age with confidence and prosperity but ended it with uncertainty and doubt.
How were women often portrayed in that time? Women were often portrayed as either Madonnas or  whores.

Was his novel a source of inspiration for other art forms? Explain. It has inspired countless tales of vampires.
Dracula is a purely fictional character, but he was named after a real person. Explain. Stocker named his infamous charachter after a real person who happened to have a taste for blood. Vlad III, Prince of Wallachia or - as he is better known - Vlad the Impaler. This nickname comes from his favourite way to kill his enemies.
Who is Jonathan Harker? He is a brave but naive sollicittor and clerck. He is British and he is engaged to Mina Murray. He travels to Transylvania for buisness, but ends up being a prisoner in Dracula's castle.
Who is Mina Murray? She is a, sweet, innocent, loyal, school teacher. She is British and engaged to Jonathan Harker. Mina is a central figure in the story as she helps defeat Dracula through their strong connection.
Who is Count Dracula? He is an Hungarian vampire that is calm and quiet, but just to give people a false sense of security.His wife died by suicide. He is a descendant of Attila de Hun and lives in the Carpatians mountains. He is noble origin.
Who is Lucy Westenra? She is a viscious British woman. She is engaged to Arthur Holmwood. Lucy Westenra is a beautiful young woman. She becomes a vampire after being bitten by Dracula, and her transformation is turining point in the story. She is Mina's best friend.
Who is Arthur Holmwood? He is a noble and compassionate gentleman. He is engaged to Lucy and he is wealthy, he inherited the title of lord Godalming after his father's death.
Who is professor Van Helsing? He is a smart, brave and determined doctor, professor and vampire expert. He is Dutch. He was the leader in the fight against Dracula and highly knowledgeble about vampires.
Who is Quincey Morris? He is a brave and honourable Texan, loyal and chivalrous adventurer. He is in love with Lucy. He is very important in the pursuit of Dracula
Who is DR. Seward? He is an intelligent, educated and calm doctor. He is Brittish. He surround Lucy on the last night of her life. In the morning of the 20th, they noticed that the marks on her neck have fully disappeard; but Van Helsing reports that Lucy is about to die.
How was Lucy portraited in the Novel Dracula? very lusciously: she is sexy, seductive and tries to lure the men into her arms. (= Madonna)
How does Mina’s experience illustrate the phrase ‘tremendum et fascinans’? Despite her startled reaction at first, she is intrigued by this gallant stranger
Compare the character of Mina to that of Lucy in the text fragment. Which similarities and differences do you notice? Mina reacts as an honourable woman would do. She bluntly turns Dracula down. She appaers more serious and conscientious and therefore she is closer to he Victorian ideal tha Lucy.

Compare the description of the male character in Twilight to the depiction of Dracula in the scene of the film. Which differences do you notice? Differences: age, hairstyle and clothes, accenr. Edward is quite shy whereas Dracula, talkative. He addresses Mina in the streets of London. Edward doesn't make contact with Bella.

The paleness of the face, the mysterious look, the polite, courtly attitude in talking to a lady, the initial fear making room for fascination.
Why is the theme of the vampire still so popular in modern fiction and cinema? Escape into fantasy. A first relationship scares and fascinates the readers. Focus on emotions: girls like to identify with Bella (confused and insecure) . The vampire = the 'bad boy', which many girls are attracted to and hope to turn into a good one.
What is a vampire's bite a methaphor of? It's a symbol for seduction and sexuality. The bite is a warning to not give in to feelings of lust.
