archaeologist - a person who digs up and studies remains of ancient towns and cities
era - period of time or history
fragments - small, broken pieces
historian - a person who knows a great deal about history
intact - whole or complete
preserved - protected so that it does not decay or get damaged
reconstruct - put its broken or separated parts back together
remnants - small pieces or parts of something that are left over.
