Weather Maps/Air Pressure
| Question | Answer |
|---|---|
| Cold Front | A cold air mass is replacing a warm air mass |
| Atmospheric (Air) Pressure | Pressure caused by the air above an area |
| Air Mass | A large body of air that has relatively uniform temperature and humidity |
| Wind | The perceptible natural movement of the air, created by the movement of air masses |
| Front | The boundary between two air masses |
| Thermometer | A device that measures temperature |
| Barometer | A device that measures atmospheric (air) pressure |
| Anemometer | A device that measures wind speed |
| Weather Balloon | carries instruments into the atmosphere |
| Wind Vane | A device that measures wind direction (N,S,E,W) |
| Compass Rose | A device that helps determine wind direction on weather maps |
| Warm Front | A warm air mass is replacing a cold air mass |
| Occluded Front | Two cold air masses converge on a warm air mass |
| Stationary Front | A boundary between two different air masses, neither of which is strong enough to replace the other |
| Isobars | Lines connecting points of equal atmospheric pressure. |
