UIA 1B Education Vocabulary

TermDefinition
a subject an area of knowledge that is studied in school.
a course a series of classes about a particular subject in a school.
undergraduate somebody who is studying for their first college or university degree.
graduate someone who has a college or university degree.
postgraduate someone who is studying for a higher degree.
Master's degree Advanced university degree.
PhD the highest University degree.
tutor a teacher who works with an individual or a small group of students.
lecturer somebody who teaches at a university or college or somebody who gives a talk on a particular subject.
professor a teacher of the highest level in a university department
tutorial a period of self-study following a guide or a period of study with a tutor.
seminar a class in whicha small group of students discuss a particular subject.
lecture a talk on a particular subject, especially at university or college.
fees the amount of money you pay to go to a private university.
student loan money you borrow to pay for your studies.
scholarship an amount of money that is given by a school, an organization, etc., to a student to help pay for the student's education.
continuous assessment a system where the student's work is judged on various pieces of work, NOT one final exam.
a module one part of a university or college course.
an essay a short piece of writing on a particular subject.
an assignment a piece of work given to someone as part of their studies or job.
a dissertation a long piece of writing on a particular subject.
a degree a title conferred on students by a college, university, or professional school on completion of a program of study.
a mark a symbol used to represent a teacher's estimate of a student's work or conduct.
a progress report a document saying if a student is improving.
