| Cell Division | The process by which a mother cell divides its nuclear and cytoplasmic components into two daughter cells. |
| Chromosomes | The strands of DNA |
| Cell Cycle | A repeating series of events that includes growth, DNA synthesis and cell division. |
| Mitosis | A type of cell division that results in two daughter cells |
| Interphase | The phase where the cell spends most of its life. |
| Prophase | The first phase of mitosis. |
| Centrioles | An organelle that helps with dividing cells. |
| Spindle | The structure the divides genetic material in the cell. |
| Metaphase | The second phase in which chromosomes are lined up in the middle of the cell. |
| Anaphase | third phase of mitosis in which spindle fibers shorten and pull sister chromatids to opposite poles of the cell. |
| Telophase | final phase of mitosis during which chromosomes uncoil to form chromatin, the spindle breaks down, and new nuclear membranes form. |
