Types of Energy
| Term | Definition |
|---|---|
| Mechanical energy | The sum of energy associated with motion and position in a system of objects. |
| Radiant energy | energy carried by electromagnetic waves |
| Sound energy | energy carried by sound waves |
| Chemical energy | A form of potential energy that is stored in chemical bonds between atoms. |
| Potential energy | energy stored due to interactions between objects or particles; position energy |
| Thermal Energy (Heat) | energy that comes from the temperature of matter. The hotter a substance is |
| Electrical energy | energy available through the flow of an electric current that is created by the movement of electrons |
| Gravitational energy | potential energy that an object has due to its position on a surface |
| Kinetic energy | the energy that an object has due to its motion |
| Elastic energy | energy stored in an object when it is stretched or compressed. |
| Energy | The ability to do work or cause change |
| Work | When a force is applied to an object and that object moves |
| Dissipated energy | Energy used up in a system in the form of heat and sound to the environment and not recoverable in a process. |
| Law of conservation of energy | the law that states that energy cannot be created or destroyed but can be changed from one form to another |
