denominator the number below the bar in a fraction that tells how many equal parts are in the whole or in the group.
equivalent ratios ratios that name the same comparison.
numerator the number above the bar in a fraction that tells how many equal parts of the whole are being considered.
rate a ratio that compares two quantities having different units of measure.
ratio a comparison of two numbers, a and b, that can be written as a fraction a/b.
unit rate a rate expressed so that the second term in the ratio is one unit.
x-coordinate the first number in an ordered pair; tells the distance to move right or left from( 0,0).
y-coordinate the second number in an ordered pair; tells the distance to move up or down from(0,0).
decimal a number with one or more digits to the right of the decimal point.

factor a multiplied by another number to find a product.
percent a comparison of a number to 100; percent means '' per hundred''.
quotient the number that results from dividing.

simplest form a fraction is in simplest form when the numerator and denominator have only 1 as common factor.
capacity The amount a container can hold.
common factor a number that is a factor of two or more numbers.
conversion factor a rate in which two quantities are equal but use different units.

formula a set of symbols that expresses a mathematical rule.
