What are the types of alveolar bone? Proper (lines the tooth socket) and supporting (cortical and trabecular bone)
Location of alveolar crest fibers? Cervical cementum
Location of horizontal fibers? Alveolus proper horizontal to cementum
Location of oblique fibers? Apical 2/3 of root
Location of apical fibers? Apex
Location of interradicular fibers? Between roots
Location of transseptal fibers? Tooth to tooth
List the 6 PDL fibers. Alveolar crest, horizontal, oblique, apical, interradicular, and transseptal
Location of circular ligament? Around tooth
Location of dentogingival ligament? Dentin to gingiva
Location of alveologingival ligament? Alveolar bone to gingiva

What is the % of mineralization of enamel? 96%
Is enamel vascular or avascular? Avascular
What are the striae of retzius? Incremental growth lines
In healthy patients, is cementum visible? No
What is the function of cementum? To anchor the PDL
What is the % of mineralization of cementum? 65%
Is cementum vascular or avascular? Avascular
What should healthy cementum look and feel like? Pale, dull yellow with grainy feel
What is the origin of cementum? Dental sac, Mesoderm
What are the undifferentiated cells in the dental sac that give rise to cementum? Cementoblasts
Cementum begins forming on the root after the disintegration of what? Hartwig's epithelial root sheath
What are the PDL fiber groups formed by? Collagen
What are the different PDL fiber groups? Alveolar crest, horizontal, oblique, apical, interradicular, transseptal
What is the function of the PDL? Provides attachment for the tooth to jaw, shock absorber
What are cementoblasts called once they are trapped in cementum? Cementocytes
What is the most common CEJ relationships and what is the percentages? Overlap - 60% Meet - 30% Gap - 10%
What are the 3 major characteristics of alveolar bone? Easily remodeled by pressure, vasculare, 60% mineralized
What are the 2 types of alveolar bone? Proper and supporting
What type of alveolar bone do you see in edentulous patients? Supporting
What type of bone lines the tooth socket? Proper
What are the functions of the pulp? Support/Maintenance of coronal dentin, sensory, nutritional, and protective
