Pre-Production Vocab

Vocabulary terms to know for the pre-production unit.

TermDefinition
Pre-Production The planning phase of a production where ideas are developed, scripts are written, storyboards are created, and logistics are organized.
Script A written document outlining the dialogue, actions, and instructions for a production.
Storyboard A series of drawings or images that outline the visual plan for a production, showing how the story will unfold scene by scene.
Scene A specific part of a production that happens in one location or focuses on a single event.
Casting The process of selecting actors, anchors, or performers for specific roles in a production.
Location Scouting The process of finding and evaluating locations where filming or production will take place.
Shot List A detailed breakdown of every camera shot planned for a production, including angles, movements, and timing.
Talent The on-screen performers, such as actors, anchors, or hosts.
Production Design The overall look of a production, including set design, costumes, and props.
Logistics The planning and coordination of resources, schedules, and equipment to ensure a smooth production.
Audio Design The planning of sound elements like dialogue, music, and sound effects to enhance the production.
Transition Instructions for how one scene shifts to another, such as “fade to black” or “cut to.”
Call Sheet A daily schedule provided to the cast and crew, detailing the scenes to be filmed and when talent and equipment need to be ready.
Visuals The planned images or scenes that will appear on screen during the production.
