investment the outlay of money usually for income or profit
return on investment a performance measure used to evaluate the efficiency of an investment or compare the efficiency of several investments
compound investment interest computed on the sum of an original principal and accrued interest
stock the proprietorship element in a corporation usually divided into shares and represented by transferable certificates
bond an obligation made binding by a forfeit of money also : the amount of the money guarantee
diversification the act or practice of spreading investments among a variety of securities or classes of securities
retierment account a trust that holds investment assets purchased with a taxpayer's earned income for the taxpayer's eventual benefit in old age
stock market a trading network that connects investors looking to buy and sell stocks and their derivatives
dividend the percentage of a company's earnings that is paid to its shareholders as their share of the profits
mutual fund an open-end investment company that invests money of its shareholders in a usually diversified group of securities of other corporations
common stock shares entitling their holder to dividends that vary in amount and may even be missed, depending on the fortunes of the company
preferred stock Preferred stock is a hybrid security that integrates features of both common stocks and bonds.
corporate bond a debt issued by a company in order for it to raise capital
government bond a form of bond issued by a government to support public spending
beneficiary the person designated to receive the income of an estate that is subject to a trust
executors the person appointed by a testator to execute a will
trust reliance on future payment for property (such as merchandise)
estate the assets and liabilities left by a person at death
will a legal document that coordinates the distribution of your assets after death and can appoint guardians for minor children
power of attorney a legal instrument authorizing one to act as the attorney or agent of the grantor
investment liquidity how easily or quickly a security can be bought or sold in a secondary market
probate the analysis and transfer administration of estate assets previously owned by a deceased person
personal financial planning the process of taking a comprehensive look at your financial situation and building a specific financial plan to reach your goals
estate planning the arranging for the disposition and management of one's estate at death through the use of wills, trusts, insurance policies, and other devices
