| Like denominators | Different fractions that have the same denominators (same total number of pieces). Ex: 3/8, 4/8, 7/8, etc. |
| Unlike denominators | Fractions that have different denominators (different total number of pieces). Ex: 1/3, 1/4, 1/8, etc. |
| Fraction bar | The line that separates the numerator and the denominator |
| Factor pair | A set of two numbers that when multiplied together give you a specific number. |
| Simplify | When you divide the numerator and denominator by the greatest common factor (GCF). |
| Area | The amount of space inside a flat (2-dimensional) object such as a rectangle, floor, wall, window, etc. Area = Length x Width and is measured in square units (sq. in, sq. cm, etc). |
| Unit fraction | A fraction that has 1 as its numerator. Ex: 1/2, 1/17, 1/100, etc. |
| Length | The measurement of how far something is from end to end. |
| Width | The measurement of distance from side to side. |
| Scaling | The ratio of the length in a drawing, or model, to the length of the real object. |
