Transport and Energy
| Term | Definition |
|---|---|
| Diffusion | Movement of molecules from an area of higher concentration to an area of lower concentration. |
| Osmosis | Diffusion of water through a selectively permeable membrane |
| Semi/Selectively Permeable | some substances can pass across them and others cannot |
| Lipid bilayer | structure of cell membrane |
| Transport proteins | structures in the cell membrane that allow for large and polar molecules to pass through |
| Active transport | the movement of materials through a cell membrane using energy |
| Passive transport | The movement of materials through a cell membrane without using energy |
| Space between lipids | where small molecules can pass through the cell membrane |
| High concentration | when molecules are more crowded |
| Low concentration | when molecules are less crowded |
| Oxygen and glucose | products of photosynthesis |
| Reactants of respiration | oxygen and glucose |
| water, sunlight, CO2 | reactants of photosynthesis |
| ATP, carbon dioxide, water | products of cellular respiration |
| mitochondria | where cellular respiration takes place |
| chloroplast | where photosynthesis takes place |
