Term | Definition |
---|---|
complex fraction | a fraction with a numerator and/or denominator that is also a fraction |
congruent | line segments that have the same length, or angles that have the same measure, or figures that have the same size and shape |
constant of proportionality | a constant ratio or unit rate of a proportion |
corresponding parts | parts of congruent or similar figures that matach |
cross products | if a/c = b/d, then ad = bc. If ad = bc, then a/c = b/d |
dimensional analysis | The process of including units of measurement when computing |
indirect measurement | Using the properties of similar triangles to find measurements that are difficult to measure directly |
nonproportional | a relationship in which two ratios are not equal |
proportion | a statement of equality of two or more ratios |
proportional | the ratios of related terms are equal |
rate | a ratio of two measurements having different units |
ratio | A ratio is a comparison of two or more quantities, usually written as a/b |
scale | The relationship between the measurements on a drawing or model and the measurements of the real object |
scale drawing | A drawing that is used to represent an object that is too large or too small to be drawn at actual size |
scale factor | The ratio of a length on a scale drawing or model to the coreesponding length on the real object |
scale model | A model used to represent an ojbect that is too large or too small to be built at actual size |
similar figures | figures that have the same shape but not necessarily the same size |
unit rate | A rate simplified so that it has a denominator of 1 |
