| Complex | Something with many parts that’s hard to understand |
| Monologue | A long speech by one person, usually in a play. |
| Distortion | A change that makes something look or sound strange. |
| Anecdote | A short, interesting, or funny story. |
| Chronological | Ordered in the sequence that events happened. |
| Thesis | A main idea in an essay that the writer will explain or prove. |
| Vindictive | Wanting revenge or trying to hurt someone back. |
| Cynical | Doubting that people are good or honest. |
| Connotation | The feelings or ideas a word suggests, besides its basic meaning. |
| Juxtaposition | Placing two different things side by side to show differences. |
| Furtive | Done secretly to avoid being noticed. |
| Dialect | A way of speaking that’s unique to a certain area or group. |
| Cliché | An overused saying or idea that has lost its impact. |
| Contempt | A strong dislike or lack of respect. |
| Ultimately | In the end; finally. |
| Remorse | A feeling of regret or guilt for something you did. |
| Naïve | Lacking experience, often making someone easy to trick. |
| Intent | The purpose or reason for doing something. |
