Realism literary realism is a literary genre that attempts to represent subject-matter truthful, avoiding speculative fiction and supernatural.
Cynical Believing that people are motivated purely by self-interest; distrustful of human sincerity or integrity.
Idiom A phrase or expression that usually presents a figurative, non-literal meaning attached to the phrase.
Metaphor A figure of speech that, for rhetorical effect, directly refers to one by mentioning another.
Personification Non-living objects given human characteristics.
Diction The choice and use of words and phrases in speech or writing.
Satire The use of humor, irony, exaggeration, or ridicule to expose and criticize people’s stupidity or vices, particularly in the context of contemporary politics and other topical issues.
Simile Comparing two things using like or as.
Oxymoron Two opposite words are used together.
Antonyms The words “hot” and “cold” are antonyms often used to describe extremes.
