ESD (Electrostatic discharge Flow of electricity from one electrically charged object to another
Sag Power condition of over-voltage that lasts seconds
Surge protector Power condition of under-voltage that lasts milliseconds
Line conditioner A device that protects against over-voltages by switching a device off before an over-voltage can damage it
Brownout Drop in voltage due to the large number of computer being run at the same time
Denatured isopropyl alcohol Tool used to clean metal contacts (like those found on expansion cards).
Temperature Factor that lets a computer equipment to age and degrade faster due to not having proper fans or air conditioning systems.
Backout plan A plan that specifies how you will return affected systems to their original states if your implementation fails
Positive pressure systems Pressure systems that protect the air quality in the facility by causing air to be forced out through doors, windows, and other openings.
Negative pressure systems Pressure systems that draw air in, potentially bringing in airborne particles such as dust or smoke.
EMI and RFI Two types of interference that affect computer networks
Electromagnetic interference (EMI) Interference that affects wired network signals
Radio Frequency Interference (RFI) Interference on the radio channel used by wireless networking devices
Crimper A wire crimper, also known as a cable crimper, is used to secure connectors to the ends of network cables.
Cable stripper A cable stripper is used to remove – or strip – the insulation from a wire. Crimpers and strippers can often be built into the same network tool.
WiFi analyzer A tool that can measure signal strength, network names, network security settings, network coverage
Toner probe A tool that sends a signal into the wire and provides an audible tone if any signal is detected on the wire being tested
Network tap A device used to collect data on traffic traveling across a network. The tap is usually installed right into your network cabling.
Punch down tool A punch down tool is used to secure cable wiring to a punch-down block or a patch panel.
Multimeter A device that tests various electrical properties such as AC and DC voltage, current (amps), resistance (ohms), capacitance
Cable tester A tool that verifies that a network can carry a signal from one end to the other and that all wires within the connector are in the correct positions.
Loopback plug A tool used to test network communications by redirecting a signal from the transmit port on a device to the receive port on the same device.
Reproduce the problem The hardest part of troubleshooting a problem is

Asset management Process of tracking and managing an organization's assets
Procurement Process of purchasing new equipment
Deployment Process of adding an asset to an inventory management database
Decommissioning Process of removing the asset from the production network
Policies Rules that have been set by an organization
Procedures Directions that outline step-by-step information on how something should be done.

Use these flashcards to help memorize information. Look at the large card and try to recall what is on the other side. Then click the card to flip it. If you knew the answer, click the green Know box. Otherwise, click the red Don't know box.

When you've placed seven or more cards in the Don't know box, click "retry" to try those cards again.

If you've accidentally put the card in the wrong box, just click on the card to take it out of the box.

You can also use your keyboard to move the cards as follows:

If you are logged in to your account, this website will remember which cards you know and don't know so that they are in the same box the next time you log in.

When you need a break, try one of the other activities listed below the flashcards like Matching, Snowman, or Hungry Bug. Although it may feel like you're playing a game, your brain is still making more connections with the information to help you out.
